Floorplan

The Property

The house was meticulously restored in 2012, with its creative history carefully incorporated into the contemporary design. The result is an eclectic and stylish interior, blending different surfaces to enhance the property’s unique identity. For example, the lower floors have wooden tiling from the original studio, while the concrete staircase connecting the upper floors was likewise retained from the old building.

Victorian studio carefully transformed into a modern house with exceptionally large windows and light-filled rooms

Kitchen

Indoor Spaces

The ground floor is centred on an open-plan kitchen with a breakfast bar and separate dining area. This room is lit from a large bank of windows, rising up to the first-floor reception room. Meanwhile, a staircase allows more convenient access to the level below.

Upstairs, the first floor is a mezzanine-like space, with walkways and internal balconies connecting it to the kitchen, allowing the light to be shared between both levels. Meanwhile, the second floor is occupied by the principal bedroom suite, which includes a generous dressing room and spacious bathroom with a free-standing bath, a pair of sinks and a separate shower. This floor also contains a second bathroom.

The Bedrooms

Two more bedrooms share the third floor, along with access to the roof terrace. Electric blinds are available at night, and the upstairs bedrooms also have air conditioning.

On the lower ground floor is a fourth bedroom with ensuite bathroom, as well as a home cinema with attached study. Both these rooms have French doors leading onto balconies, while a small utility room completes this floor. Downstairs again is a large family room and a plant room.

The house can be entered from two separate doors, one leading directly into the kitchen, the other to the main staircase. Most of the rooms have underfloor heating, as well as a wood-burning stove in the kitchen and a gas fire in the main reception room.

Second Reception Room

Outdoor Spaces

The property includes a west-facing terrace, with wooden decking and enough space for outdoor dining. In addition, the lower ground floor benefits from a pair of balconies, while the basement floor includes a patio with a wall mural.

The Neighbourhood

Scarsdale Studios consists of a group of artists’ studios built in the late Victorian era. Today, they form a discreet, mews-like courtyard, accessed via a passageway from Stratford Road. Surrounded on all sides by houses, the result is an exceptionally calm and quiet property. At the same time, the shops, restaurants and underground station of High Street Kensington are all within walking distance, and so too the southern entrance of Holland Park.
