One of the picturesque pastel cottages on Chelsea’s Bywater Street has been listed for sale at just shy of £3m.
Best known as the fictional home of the character George Smiley in John Le Carré’s celebrated spy novels, this peaceful backwater just off the King’s Road has found fame with a new generation as Chelsea’s most “Instagrammable” street.
Featured in over 10,000 Instagram posts to date, the quaint cul-de-sac is the area’s most popular destination for tagged posts on the social platform, whilst the hashtag #BywaterStreet is another popular choice.
No.24, a 1,600 square foot specimen in pale pink towards the rear corner, has now been listed via Russell Simpson at £2.975m.
The internal space involves a double-aspect reception on the ground floor, with private study and open-plan kitchen/dining room on the level beneath. Along with two guest bedrooms on the first floor, there’s a master suite up top, with access onto a patio terrace.
At asking, the rate works out at £1,855 per square foot.
Jake Russell, Director at Russell Simpson: “Bywater Street is one of Chelsea’s true hidden gems. The colourful homes and peaceful ambience created by the cul-de-sac make it an incredibly popular place for its residents, as well as those looking for a unique backdrop.
“One of the biggest selling points here is the fact that location-wise you are in the throng of the action, with all of the boutique shops, restaurants and galleries of the King’s Road at the end of the street.
‘However, there are not many areas in Chelsea that feel like a quaint village community than Bywater Street, it’s a real plus for those that want to live in a quiet enclave of one of the world’s busiest cities.”
